Among the 15 Newly Industrialised Countries (NIC) analysed,
Venezuela is ranked No. 15 with regard to the General Innovation Index (GII) and Sustainability Index (SusI). The numbers point towards a specialisation on sustainability technologies with regard to patents, but not with regard to publications or exports.

Among the 15 Newly Industrialised Countries analysed,
Venezuela is ranked No. 6 with regard to governance. For the other indicators which enter the GII, it is ranked rather at the bottom among the NICs analysed.
Concerning the environmental and social aspects that are used for the SusI index, Vene-zuela is ranked No. 13 with regard to environmental aspects and last with regard to social aspects.
The export specialisation of Venezuela in the analysed fields is generally very low. The world shares of Venezuela in technology specific publications (WLS), patents (WPS) and exports (WTS) are given in table 2.
