Among the 15 Newly Industrialised Countries (NIC) analysed,  Among the 15 Newly Industrialised Countries (NIC) analysed, Mexico is ranked No. 13 with regard to the General Innovation Index (GII) and No. 12 with regard to the Sus-tainability Index (SusI). In addition, Mexico specialises on sustainable technologies with regard to publications and patents. Please view the methods sheet for more detailed information about the indicators and their calculation.
The world shares of Mexico in sustainability relevant publications, patents and exports are given in table 1.

Indicators for general innovation capacity

Among the 15 Newly Industrialised Countries analysed,  Mexico is ranked last with regard to learning, No. 5 with regard to governance, and No. 10 or 11 with regard to the other indicators.
Concerning the environmental and social aspects that are used for the SusI index, Mex-ico is placed at position 11 and 13.


Indicators for technology specific absorptive capacity

 Mexico shows for almost all technology fields a strong specialisation in knowledge base, which is supplemented by an export specialisation in the field of energy supply and energy efficiency technologies. Transportation technologies show an average specialization for both exports and knowledge base. The world shares of Mexico in technology specific publications (WLS), patents (WPS) and exports (WTS) are given in table 2.

Selected disaggregated results for technology specific indicators

Table 3 lists the results for the indicators of Mexico on an even more disaggregated level. The relevant indicators are the World Trade Share (WTS), Relative Trade Share (RTS), Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA), Patent Share (PS) and the Revealed Patent Advantage (RPA). Striking technology fields of Mexico can for example be found for propulsion technologies or industrial auxiliary equipment.
