Among the 15 Newly Industrialised Countries (NIC) analysed, Mexico is ranked No. 13 with regard to the General Innovation Index (GII) and No. 12 with regard to the Sus-tainability Index (SusI). In addition, Mexico specialises on sustainable technologies with regard to publications and patents.

Among the 15 Newly Industrialised Countries analysed,
Mexico is ranked last with regard to learning, No. 5 with regard to governance, and No. 10 or 11 with regard to the other indicators.
Concerning the environmental and social aspects that are used for the SusI index, Mex-ico is placed at position 11 and 13.
Mexico shows for almost all technology fields a strong specialisation in knowledge base, which is supplemented by an export specialisation in the field of energy supply and energy efficiency technologies. Transportation technologies show an average specialization for both exports and knowledge base. The world shares of Mexico in technology specific publications (WLS), patents (WPS) and exports (WTS) are given in table 2.
